Fishing the susquehanna flats9/21/2023 ![]() (His wife, Karen, knew how to catch them as well.) And it was only one of a couple of good shows I saw Susquehanna stripers put on recently. Better than anything on Saturday morning outdoor TV or bragged about on the internet. And when your friend has this fish tied to a tiny one-eighth ounce jig on an ultra-light spinning rod – far and away not recommended striper tackle - you imagine anything can happen.īut your friend is a darn good fisherman and despite the minuscule hook embedded in its upper jaw bone he implausibly lands this steroidal bass in the Gunpowder River, a few klicks from the Susquehanna Flats.īelieve me, it was a good show to watch. Particularly in cool autumn waters when the striper tries to throw the hook by spinning on the surface and ripping the rod from your hands, you doubly judge it to be a big one. ![]() ![]() When a striper swirls on the surface, creating a hole as big as a bushel of apples, you have to believe it’s a big striper.
